Smart 2010 may have spanned two cities but its intent was the unity of youth across the nation.
Run now for over 10 years, Get Smart has grown in influence each year and now sees youth travel from all parts of New Zealand to attend the conference.
Held between July 12 and 16 in Christchurch and Auckland, Get Smart 2010 saw over 2000 high-schoolers, young adults and youth pastors gather together under the banner of “UNITE: A Nation Won as One”.
Guest speakers included Jurgen Matthesius from the United States, James Murray and Andrew Kubala from Australia as well as Paul de Jong from New Zealand. Senior pastors and youth pastors from around New Zealand also participated in the conference.
Each speaker encouraged the youth that by coming together they can make a difference no matter where they are located.
Each day included a specific breakout session for those in high school, those aged 18 and older, and youth pastors.
Breaks between sessions didn’t mean ‘down-time’, with the delegates able to participate in an on-site snow ramp, live gigs, soccer tournaments, a talent contest and other entertainment.
Most importantly, hundreds of decisions were made for Jesus, and many healing miracles occurred during a special session on the last day.
Get Smart directors Craig and Nadia Clark said they were left “absolutely in awe of what God did throughout the week”.
“Next year’s conference is called ENCOUNTER, and we believe that God has laid a foundation this year for us to truly encounter him as one next year.”
