The New Zealand Hall of Fame made me proud to be a New Zealander.

This inspiring book aimed at older primary school children includes 50 double-page spreads on New Zealanders made famous by their achievements. Our small country has produced some amazing people including world-famous explorers to talented singers and artists, top sportsmen and women, pioneers, scientists, inventors, and leaders.

The introduction expresses the dilemma author Maria Gill faced with who to include in the book.

The majority of people are still alive today with a few exceptions including Sir Edmund Hillary, Sir Peter Blake and Alan McDiarmid.

Kate Sheppard and Irene van Dyk although born outside New Zealand achieved their fame here. Some included are more likely to be known by younger people since it is primarily aimed at this age group.

Each person receives a two-page spread and their determination, dedication and effort to succeed is emphasised. I enjoyed finding out more about my fellow countrymen and their achievements and feel this is a valuable resource also for adults.
