Having read Love, Tears & Autism, I have gained a huge admiration for parents and siblings living with children who have autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and empathy for those who live within the constraints of this disability.
Cecily Paterson has allowed me to look into her world through her honest and open account of her day-to-day life while bringing up her son with this diagnosis.
Paterson shares so much of herself through the book – her struggles, emotions and feelings, the impact on her relationship with her husband and other two children and her faith. I was left wanting to reach out and help her, or others in a similar position. It pulled at my heart-strings, knowing how busy it is bringing up three children without ASD.
Paterson’s life has been changed as God has led her through her shattered dreams and taught her real love.
I would recommend this book to anyone who knows a family who has a child with ASD, including church congregations, to better appreciate this disability and the struggles they are likely to have, and therefore allow others to reach out and support them. It will be invaluable to family and friends of those diagnosed with autism.
