LONDON, ENGLAND (ANS): Following the toughest budget in a generation, Global Day of Prayer is calling for Christians to pray for those most affected by the latest government cutbacks.
“With reduced funding for many local government and public sector services, people at the grassroots are going to feel the impact of these cutbacks. This is the time for the churches to unite in prayer and act appropriately to help their local communities,” said GDOP London Convener Jonathan Oloyede.
“The rate of depression, debts, bankruptcy, domestic violence and other social vices is set to increase. People need our prayers. Local councils and social services need more prayer; the whole nation needs much more prayer.”
After 10,000 Christians gathered at West Ham stadium on June 13 for a national day of prayer, Global Day of Prayer London is calling the Church to a season of intercession for the capital and the nation, by launching 500 days of prayer from August 1.
Mr Oloyede said they wanted to keep the momentum of prayer going throughout the year.
“We want to build beacons of prayer in every UK County towards a national day of prayer at Wembley Stadium in September 2011.
